Michigan – Miami Photo Blog

I’m a few games behind on posting pictures, so rather than rehash old news, I’m just going to post pictures for a couple of games.  Enjoy!

Trying to bury the nightmare….

Seven years ago, Michigan Football played against Appalachian State in what proved to be the first in a line of setbacks that we can only hope are behind us.  On that day, 9/1/2007 Michigan had two field goals blocked in the fourth quarter and gave up what would be the game winning field goal.  Today we started to erase that memory with a 52-14 thumping of the Mountaineers.

I’m not going to try to pretend that everything was perfect, or that we are ready to run the table on this season.  I think there is still a lot of work to be done before next week when we are on the road at Notre Dame.  Still, there were a lot of positives to point to.

The offense scored early and often, the defense forced multiple 3 and outs, and the special teams chimed in with a blocked punt for a touchdown.  There was a connection between Devin’s.  The Gardner to Funchess connection resulted in 3 TD’s in the first half, and Funchess in his new #1 jersey looked as impressive as some of those who have worn it before.

Ok, you say this was only Appalachian State….and I agree.  But, we were prepared for this game, and there were plenty of signs of improvement.  This gives me hope.  Before this game I predicted an 8-4 season.  I’m not ready to upgrade that quite yet, but now I have hope.

I apologize for the lack of posts last year.  Although I took lots of pictures, I didn’t really have the time to sort through them and post.  I hope to do that regularly this year.  If I get a chance I will post a best of 2013 with some of the pictures I took last year.

Until then, here’s my pictures from today.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.  Go Blue!

The crowd eventually filled in, but it’s certainly clear there are less students there.

The first kickoff of the 2014 season. It resulted in a touchback.

DSC_0051

Devin Gardner looked comfortable in the pocket and stepped up rather than trying to spin away.

DSC_0055

Devin Funchess switched to the #1 jersey and had an impact right away, here running upfield after an early catch.

DSC_0076

Jehu Chesson made this grab and then cut around the defender for a nice gain. Clearly picking up where he left off last year.

DSC_0129

Frank Clark went up and over the shield on this punt. He drew a penalty as it’s illegal to jump the shield now, just for safety. Note the legs up, head down.

Jourdan Lewis flys in to make a nice tackle.

Jabrill Peppers left this defender with nothing but turf in his hands on an early punt return.

…and then proves he can tackle as well as catch passes.

That’s #33 Taco Charlton being held and still making the sack on the Mountaineer quarterback.

DSC_0269

Gardner’s pocket presence and footwork were much improved. He looks balanced here.

Devin Funchess with another catch.

DSC_0272

The Heisman look is cool, but hopefully the coaches will work with him on ball security.

DSC_0306

De’Veon Smith also breaks out for a long run.

DSC_0333

Mike McCray here right after he partially blocked the punt.

DSC_0338

Ben Gedeon with the 32 yard return of the blocked punt for a touchdown.

DSC_0364

Michigan fans wanted this to be a TD, and Brady even challenged the ruling, but it looks pretty clear from this picture that De’Veon Smith is down and the ball hasn’t crossed the line yet.

Frank Clark with a Tackle for a Loss. Michigan also had 2 sacks on the day.

McElfresh makes an incredible grab and gets one foot down for one of the Mountaineer TD’s.
